DIY Flame less MRE heater

Has anyone made their own flame less MRE heater?

I've got a load of magnesium powder and from what I read I'd need to add some iron powder and keep it from moisture.

I figure it can't be a hard thing to make and guess it's just about getting the right quantities so that it doesn't get out of hand.

Other than go get off the shelf does anyone have any pointers?
