Hi all , i turn 60 next year and planning a stay near Derwentwater (walking, cycling, canoeing, climbing) Id like to do an overnight or longer Bushcraft night. Any recommendations nearby or advice, ideas , help etc etc appreciated. Aslo looking for a place for up to 6 people to stay so family can join us as and when (my Dad will be 90 at the same time) if anyone has advice on that also appreciated.

Given that you have a year to plan, you should be able to book a camp site for yourself and Hotel / Self catering for your family but I’d do it soon. Loads of information on line.

In addition to your exertions may I recommend high tea at Brysons for your fathers birthday (but BOOK!)
And
Look at what’s on at Theatre on the Lake if you like theatre. We always enjoy the pre-Christmas performance.
We will be in Keswick again this December and booked last year.

It’s beautiful country and a great little town but you’d better be a patient driver. The roads in the hills thereabouts can get crowded and slow. Even the crags can get over popular.

Good luck.

Edited to add:
We too travel from Telford.

If you or your family want lunch on the way I’d recommend Low Sizergh Farm on the Kendal by pass. The cafe is up a flight of stairs - can’t remember a lift.
Nothing posh but good grub.
