Deleting spent Threads

Is it possible to delete spent threads on my feed on this site? for example a withdrawn, sold etc and any others for whatever reason. If so how do I do it. DD xxx

Pretty sure you can't. For some things, like discontinued knives, a google search will throw up threads that can give potential sellers and buyers an idea of what things are going for and how common they are.

I've just priced up a load of knives by checking out old Blade Forums, Spyderco Forums and eBay threads for instance.

You can edit, but removing threads is generally frowned upon, and posts even more so as it disrupts conversations. If it's a blatant mistake then you'd contact the Admin and ask for removal.

I wonder if there is perhaps a way for a user to ignore sales threads that have been tagged as "sold" or "withdrawn".

This way the threads are still present for anybody who wants to see them, but they don't clutter the view for DD or others who don't want to see them.

I'm confused......I open the forum and it's What's New that comes up.....so spent threads just naturally sink into the stratigraphy of the site's conversations. They're not immediate in any feed, iimmc ? and if I go into sales, it's the same thing. Newer ones at the top.
I'm not connecting the dots as to why DementedDale's feed is showing the old ones with any preference.

Can the original poster not delete their own threads with the edit tool?

If so - Yes it would be a pain , but seems to be a very specific request.

Having a huge repository of knowledge here and undeleted probably helps keeps the lights on from Tony’s perspective, as web search traffic will result in a not-insignificant number of visits to the site.

Once I have read all the threads I want to in ‘What’s New’ I just click ‘Mark all as read’ and it gets the stragglers to disappear.

I take the view that an OP does not 'own' a thread - they just start a conversation. There could be pages of very valuable discussion after the opening post that has far more value than the posts by the OP.

We had a member on here years ago that took umbrage and deleted his posts in threads which totally ruined many useful conversations - very bad manners, don't do it, even if you started the thread.

Could be talking at cross purposes here. Dale, do you mean threads you have "watched", perhaps? Or threads you have posted in? For watched ones, there's usually an option to "unwatch" again. If you've posted in them, I suspect they will remain in your feed of threads you've posted in no matter what you do. If you could clarify what "feed" you refer to, that'll help.

This. Much the most effective way to read the forum, imo.

I didnt think there would be so many answers to this. ok here goes. If I put a wanted a pan for example. I put out a request. I get the pan and pay for it. I then withdraw the request on the forum. The thread is still on my threads page. So the question is can I delete it to declutter the page? Hope that explains things. D x

It's called 'Your threads'. On mobile, top left three horizontal lines icon, then menu appears left hand side with 'Find threads' and under that is 'Your threads'.

I don't see why you are being bothered by those Wanted threads Dave, as they'll descend off that initial view over time. So long as you mark them as Withdrawn/Found for others, jobs and goodun.

Ah, I'm using a MacBook. I don't have that. I have threads I have a post in, unanswered threads and watched threads.

Sorry, way late to this.

To delete threads a whole usergroup would need to be given permissions to delete threads, it could probably be restricted to certain forums, but there would then be issues with people requesting a wider usage, we've had this experience before with some things and although possible to manage it can be time consuming.

For me, if there's a legitimate thread, even if it's run it's course and it no longer 'useful' it has a use to the forums, as got said before by Chris, having threads, even ones that are out of date, bring people to the forums through internet searches etc. So from a traffic point of view they're useful. They're also useful from a credibility point of view, if you've requested and item and got it, or been pointed in the right direction, that means Bushcraft UK is a good place to come to find things, get advice etc etc.

I get that it can look untidy in a way but keeping it does serve a purpose.
