DD hammock sleeve

I've saved up some $$$ and now happy with joy I'm about to buy myself a hammock. Been wandering almost a year and decided to for the better grade hammock but the affordable one - DD frontline hammock. But before I buy I want to check with you guys about the sleeve, that is suggested to go with it. My question is how waterproof you found it to be?? Can it be used instead of a dry bag? I mean. Lets say i fell off a canoe and my rucksack gets wet will this sleeve prevent my hammock from becoming wet too ??

No mate I'd still pack it in a dry bag. I've not seen the DD ones first hand but I don't expect it will be a sealed unit once packed, more of a long sausage which is cinched at both ends. They're more for getting the hammock up out of the way if you need more space under the tarp.

I had sleeves on a Hennessy I used to have but I didn't really like them, far less bulk if you just use a stuff sack I found.

Mine has kept my DD Hammock dry, but as with anything with a hole at each end, complete waterproofness is impossible.

It won't stop your hammock getting wet with a dip, but for setting up and taking down it keeps the dirt and wet off if you lay it on the floor and helps keep the rain off during set up too. Especially useful if you pull your hammock out of the bag and it hits the floor, or if you let go whilst setting up. Keeps all lines neat and easier to set up too, saving time when setting up and packing up.

If its like the snake skins used by Hennessey, they are an open tube, both ends. For me something that keeps me dry and warm, especially on canoe trips goes in a dry bag, sometimes two.

Shewie, Jonathan, Gailainne, thank you, 8 quid goes for the dry bag, and I'll improvise the sleeve from something else. I can see where it comes in handy. It makes perfect sense to have one and I know who works miracles with sewing machine

As JD says ,it does keep all together tarp hammock lines ,and makes it a sinch to put up

The material is very waterproof and the ends cinch up with drawcords but they won't take a dunk. As above, Its a dry bag all the way for me too.

Not waterproof but mines never get wet inside it,Ive started carrying it in a dry bag recently.
the idea is not to keep the hammock dry but to allow fast putting up and away,simply open one end tie on and walk the other end over tie that then peel back the sleeve and its up.
saves loads of messing,also tried adapting one for a tarp worked ok but prefer to fold that on its self
