Hi All
I was perusing threads on DIY tarps etc and followed a link to Fabrics-N-Stuff where i came across a PU coated Ripstop that looked to be reflective. Ive seen a lot of folks using metal backed emergency blankets as footprints and tarps etc and wondered if i could create a little footprint to go under my Jerven bag that would be compact and reasonably lightweight.
The fabric comes in 150cm width and is sold by the yard at £3.99. i got three yards

next i cut it to length and trimmed up the ends with a craft knife as im crap with scissors. the ripstop grid makes this easy
i have no sewing machine access so used hem tape to neatly edge the fabric. its very easy to work with and is essentially a glue that dissolves when ironed over. Iron was set to level two - YMMV but err on the cooler side until you know what works. i practiced on an offcut.
After this was all done, i reinforced the corners with two layers of spinnaker tape. I only had red.
I still need to put a hot peg trough to make my attachment points but here it is outside spread out with some stones
And with the Jerven (thermo king) on it.
packs down real small
I put it in a pillow stuff sack but will get a smaller one. weight 332g
Proof of the pudding will be out and about but as something that will put a layer underneath my bag for added protection and hopefully reflect some heat back at me it should be a winner
