Have a look over on British Blades

Jeanus 1 has a very good selection of hardwoods , reasonablt priced and as good to deal with , she also has buffalo and horn etc as well

Tamarack have a few blocks of curly birch as well
 
Having watched that being harvested I am looking forwards to seeing what comes out of it.

I have a similar one at home now but am not sure which way to try slicing it.

I just go up the local woods ;)

Mind I have been lucky with finds as its a bit hit and miss when taking from standing or fallen dead, as most have gone to far with decay. Shame I didnt save more when regularly maintaining/felling trees.

Brisa are selling it off cheap at the mo.
 
Curly birch and a birch burl is two different things and I think that you cannot find a curly burl! But a birch burl gives you another type of pattern that can be very nice.

Here is a recent knife handle I've made from a birch burl. The undone sheath is from the same burl.
