Hi all

I have a cup in my kit that I always thought was a 44 pattern cup, but it fits under my 58 pattern water bottle, so now i'm not so sure what it is. :dunno:

It is an aluminium cup, not as big as a crusader, but just a nice size.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hello
Looks like an old french army Mug, almost identical to the 44 pattern mug. I have one that has french markings on and the same red heatproof pad behind the handle base.
Cheers

looks like 44 patt, mine are in the loft, will see if they fit on the bottom of a 58 canteen. i have a few, all have rolled rims but are marked and dated not blank like yours, all have the red metal heat blocker in between the handle and mug. could be dutch when they first copied the 44 patt stuff, ali was a bit thinner on theirs than the brit issue, not current dutch as it more closely resembles the US issue.. i'll dig mine out and have a look.

It looks similar like a swiss army cup (the swiss army cup is orientated on the us army cups)

sorry to point out but that mug in NOT a swiss army mug!

the swiss army ones are about one third the size and would never accomodate a 58 pattern mug, the swiss army flask shown next to the mug holds roughly half a litre

I quite like the look of the 44 pattern mug. Hmmm, might go for one of those instead of the Crusader.

Are they a wee bit on the big side for cooking in the crusader slot on the hexi stoves' attachment? Anyone know?

Not that it matters, just curious.

Right I'm off to google 44 pat mugs, see if they're still being sold.

That ridge is probably the 0.25l mark.
I had to go and try my 44 mug on the nato waterbottle and it fits. But the 44 bottle doesnt fit the plastic nato mug or the metal one...
