Crossbow ban consultation

Are you surprised.?

Idiots and those with ill intent always have and always will commit crimes without any recourse to what is or isn’t legal. Banning crossbows and so-called broadhead arrows won’t make any difference to those people. They will still find ways of sourcing those kinds of items for illegal use, and that includes any hand weapons from machine guns down to penknives.

Perhaps the only real solution is rigorous enforcement of existing laws along with much increased penalties for offenders and stop & search in urban areas when/where there is seen to be a particular problem.

Looks like you'll be the test ground for the US saying "if guns are outlawed only outlaws'll have guns". Or the other alternative of outlaws just using cruder and/or older weapons. Either way does not sound like fun.

The crime was horrendous, how significant is the weapon?

How many assaults with crossbows have there been in the UK over the last five years?

It’s no good having a consultation with an uninformed and currently outraged population, it’s just a rehearsal of ignorance.

Welcome to every single knife and firearm law introduced in the last 30 years. Unfortunately it's only temporary media outrage and outrage from the uninformed that decides our policy.

If I were that desperate to own a crossbow, I would simply go out and make one, it is not rocket science. I do hope this doesn't start a slippery slope with restrictions on long bows next.

Rocket science maybe next... all Missile based arms when you think about it.

On the basis that I can make a bow capable of killing out of two holly saplings in about an hour, I doubt it would be very effective :)

It's worth remembering of course that it's not the bow that kills but the arrow; good arrows are much harder to make :)
