I am about to purchase my first crook / spoon knife and have this question. The blade on the Frosts single edge Crook knife tapers to a point, where the double edged one doesn't. Why is this, and as they are almost the same price, shouldn't I just get the double edged one? Will this make a different when hollowing bowls, spoons etc?

I know I said one question... but what does the number (ie 164 or 162) mean. Is this just a model number?

Many thanks in advance. ATB....Stu :thanks:

My advice... avoid the Frosts one... don't get me wrong, they're ok... but that's it. I would get the Djarv one from here. they are SO much better and much cheaper than on the Woodlore site.

As for the numbers... no idea

I too would avoid the Frosts knives. They take quite a bit of work to get them ready to use. I have both single edge and double edged spoon knives and like them both. I recently purchased a pair of Del Stubbs spoon knives…one right one left and really am starting to prefer them over my double edged knives.

These are the Del Stubbs knives and I highly recommend them. They are $45 each and worth every cent. Sharp and ready to go out of the box.

These are my Kestrel Tool and North Bay Forge double edged versions….also excellent tools.

Now this is a real crooked knife….made by Orien MacDonald in New York.

Gone with OutdoorCode, much cheaper than Woodlore and as a happy customer in the past, no reason not to use them again.

I would have thought that the Frosts Crook knife would have been of reasonable quality, going off how we all rate the Mora/Clipper knives. Never mind though, happy with the Djarv and can't wait to get making some spoons. :lmao:

Many thanks...STB....Stu
