Cramp ball fungi - when does it grow

Raikey those logs in your photos are Ash mate. Ash is the best place to find them. In all my years in Arboriculture and forestry i`ve never seen of heard of (Daldinia concentrica) cramp balls being foun on birch...would love to see some photos please
