Need a little help. I am running Windows XP on a Dell laptop. When I type it often takes several seconds for the words to appear on the screen. I didn't have this problem before and its a real pain. Any suggestions/solutions?
Thanks in advance:D

Yep definately something's going on in the background as suggested. Basic question I know but have you installed and run something like spybot search and destroy? Just in case you have any adware especially if you are connected to the net when using your laptop. Another little program to install is cache cleaner. Other things that happen in the background are things like indexing and also if the hard drive is getting a bit full windows won't have much space to use for the swap file between memory. Basically listen or look at the hard drive light to see if there's loads of activity.

Just noticed Fred you live in Aberdeenshire I used to live in Inverurie, I do miss living up there.

If you do get stuck let me know and I'll talk you through problem solving.

Fred,

When I've seen this behaviour there's usually been a virus scan going on in the background and those sods are CPU and memory intensive. There are ways you can lower the priority of them so that they don't hog resourses so bad.

If you start up task manager (alt, ctrl & del will give you a button) and click on the Processes tab. Find the process that is hogging memory and CPU and task manager conveniently shows this :) Then right click on the greedy swine and go to Set Priority and select a lower priority setting ;)

Hope that helps.
