Coastal Cardiff Camping...

Can anyone recommend a good family site along the south Wales coast? The furthest I'd considered from Cardiff was the Gower peninsula (I need to be able to visit Cardiff without too long a journey.)

Ideally coastal (but if you know a really good inland site that might be an option)

Bushcrat friendly would be great (for me) but more important that it has usual facilities for "normal" people (my fellow campers!).

You could try Gly-Y-Mul in the Neath Valley. It's had a little 're-modelling' recently but is useable, good rates, water source, open fires and woodland. Two minutes from the M4 as well. Have a look at the Wales thread in the meet up section.

You may find that the Gower is geographically near Cardiff but the back roads to and from it can increase your travelling time substantially.

The GYM is a good site. Its in two parts, one is a standard camp site, then there is a bushcraft friendly area a few minutes walk away

Ian, the site owner is a great guy, you can have a wander off and light a fire and the others can enjoy the more standard camp site facilities. You can have an open fire on the main site, Ian will lend you a fire pit to use there (open ground fires down by the river)

As Jed said, Ian has done some work down by the river and to be honest it needs a chance to green over before I'll go back there, but the main site would be perfect for your needs

G-Y-M is indeed a good sight, all of what the other guys mentioned. I was there last Saturday and the wooded area was looking alot healthier than earlier in the year.

Try beynons farm in penmaen gower,excellent and highy recommended

That looks like a nice place but doesn't allow anything in the way of Bushcraft.
