How not to survive in the wilds.......the girl using a snail for bait.....its the first thing I 've killed shrieked....as she put a knife through its shell, what was that all about

Well I was looking at the promo photo in the papers. Her with a frying pan full of fish... him with the axe.

I didn't think axe-fishing was still legal in the UK!

Actually despite it's shortcomings I did enjoy the prog. Better than most of the pap on telly.

Cheers,
Steve

I got round to watching it last night. If I hadn't already read the comments on here I would have rated it as pretty good, both from a TV point of view, and as 'bushcraft for the masses'. It did show that its still possible to make good food 'harvested' from the British countryside. As others have said, I think its main problem was that it was trying to be all things to all people in 25 minutes.

Hopefully as the series progresses they'll be a little more substance and a bit less macho posturing.

Also, I did wonder what the owner of the herb garden thought when he returned to find that his prize artichokes had been decapitated :lmao:

My summary would be that it was good, entertaining TV, and if it gets a few more people interested in real bushcraft then it'll have been worthwhile.

I'm sure that he knew months in advance, few if any television programmes leave a minor detail like artichokes being ready to eat to happenchance. which is why I suspect, he caught no fish with his spear, I'm sure there is a law against fishing with out a rod and line....

Likes showing his bum a lot!.

Here Here, theres just not enough of this on TV...:D

Anyway, I really enjoyed it AND learnt stuff too (like how NOT to strike a firesteel... ) But seriously although I go collecting mussels locally, I never realised that by diving out just a little way could land you mussels 4 times the size of the ones on the shore. I have also never seen them cooked like that before - most books/people tell you to boil mussels for at least 10 minutes :yikes: leaving you with a lump of the most unappetizing blob of rubber imagineable.

Looking forward to the rest... If only to see you lot stirred up so much :lmao: ;)
