Hi, I’m looking to spruce up an old ‘seen better days’ brass Seamless alcohol Stove (with its guts all torn out) with either Carbon Felt or Ceramic wool. Not sure it’s gonna actually work but figure it’s worth a try.

Does anyone have any links to purchase the correct material. I’m not entirely sure which type I should be looking for?

Carbon felt would be suitable, and possibly safer than ceramic fibre which can lodge in the body and persist unless you buy the 'body soluble' version. A search on ebay etc for 'carbon felt' will bring up plenty of results.

Hmmm wool felt ' cooked ' in an air free container, perhaps a circular tin potentially of similar size to the final destination - bit like making char cloth I wonder

I haven’t had any compression issues with ceramic wool over hundreds of burns in an open Kojin-style burner, and it never burns away. For me a couple of grams is worth the safety factor.

Thanks for the advice folks.

I don’t have a Kojin stove (I’d like one but that’s another story)…I have noted that the Ceramic wool they use appears to have a hard, almost crusty surface compared to other Ceramic wool.

Anyone know where I can gat that type? Or do they just treat it with something.
