Thanks all, some good info here. It looks like a nice piece of gear, considerably heavier and bulkier than my goretex as you'd imagine.

stores No JA2393 Valise, Officers
Canvas for officers kit, see List of Changes ref A1878 (which will be the introduction one, about 1925 comparing it to a list of Lewis gun LoCs I compiled) and B1075. It should come with a pair of leather straps and a connecting band that acts a a suit case handle. cost £1 9S 6D back then if you had to replace it.
