Can you I.D. this ruck? Lowe Alpine Sting or not.

Purchased from x-militarystore definitely a sting style and seems to be a dutch issued ruck but the side pouches do not look like any I have seen on a sting: There are no compression straps that go through the zipper flap and behind the pouches...the pouches have sewn on webbing instead of the plastic strap holders...the ruck behind the pouches also has sewn on webbing...the back of the pouches have two molle style straps with snaps (press fittings). It does have the individual shoulder straps for pouches.
I've been told the Lowe sting has "Lowe Alpine" legend on the snaps (press fittings) on the rear of the ruck but these are plain. Plastic buckles are woo jin flex and woo-jin monster lock.
The tags do not say Lowe alpine, but do have the nsn# 8465-17-115-5334. and rugzak klein 60 liter. I thought the sting was 50 or 55 liters? Has 2 pockets on lid 1 outer and 1 inner, and a bladder pocket inside on the back with a pass through opening at the right shoulder for a hose (or com cable?).
On the pouches, and on bottom and top front under lid(of ruck) is stamped: " B.D. Min. van def I.C. " or something close to that.
Dimensions are roughly:
36cm wide(63 cm with pouches)
70cm tall
25cm deep

I'm just wondering if this is a knock-off or did other companies make the sting style for the Dutch military.
Thanks for any help you can offer,

Thanks again.

It's a genuine Dutch army issue pack by the looks of it. Though this model has some slightly(minor) different features than I'm familiar with. The "Min. van def" bit is dutch for MOD. "Rugzak, klein" for backpack, small.

I don't think yours is a knock-off; although I've never seen the pocket/compression strap arrangement that you have, the rest of it looks kosher to me. The buckles you describe are tha same as mine, and mine doesn't have
Lowe Alpine stamped on the metalwork, either. I know for a fact that mine is the real deal and is the same as you describe, apart from the above.

Best pack I've ever used for it's size, without a doubt.

Thanks for the replies, I am very happy with the pack...it is the most comfortable while also being bombproof I've ever owned. Strange about the side pouches though as all I've ever seen have the black plastic strap holder on the pouches and behind the pockets on the ruck. I would think it had been modified, but there is no sign of a hole or patch on the zipper flap where the compression straps would go. I actually like the webbing as it is, but I think I'd like to add the compression straps like the Sting usually has because It seems like it would help with a smaller load...right now all I can do is remove the pouches and zip the sides whereas the straps would allow me to tighten the pack with any size load and still have the pouches unless I misunderstand how they work.
Thanks again for the replies.

santaman2000:

I got it from xmilitarystore in the netherlands They do ship to the U.S. and aside from some communication difficulties they were great, very patient with me and my many questions. I have no affiliation with them but if you'd like I will P.M. you with further info. I think the cost was reasonable considering how hard these are to find in the U.S., but you may not. I was considering a Karrimor Predator 45 and in the end chose this because of the adjustable back (predator is non adjustable) the side pouches on the sting include small shoulder straps (extra for the predator) and a bit more capacity for less than the price of the Predator. Of course the sting is not new and only available in DPM, but I think it is a better pack for me ymmv.

I ordered a sting without sidepockets, and then decided later on that I would like the pockets so I ordered them seperately. I was sent two non matching side pockets, one of them was like the item in your pictures with the exception that it did not fit unless you attached it upside down. There clearly seem to be variations on the same theme, but mixing and matching side pouches does not work, you have the right sack with the right pockets, but mine has the compression straps and none of that extra webbing on the side and somebody in despatch must have got the pockets confused.

Did you get yours from the same place (Xmil?) I hope you can get the right pockets for yours...if your pack has the compression straps I believe the standard PLCE pouches would work but I do not know for sure. Good luck and thanks for the reply.

You're correct, the plce pouches work perfectly with this pack, and you get an extra 5 Liters by using them.
