Don't squirm folks but........John Denver did quite a few schmaltzy tunes celebrating the mountains, including Rocky Mountain High, Cold Nights in Canada and a cover of the Beatles' Mother Nature's Son. Good melodies and very singable (provided there's no-one listening to you......)

Going only slightly off-topic here Pumbaa - is there a didge workshop around the Bournemouth area that you know of?

Sorry mate , haven't found any , i am self taught using books and tips from other players .
Although last year there was a weekend festival called "Didjing Devon " , if i can find out when it is again i will probabley go and see what its like .

I find myself humming the tune to the Last of the Mohicans I also like the Sharpe theme tune O the hills and far away.

I would love to learn the didge but I'm not sure the missus would like that much.

Let's see if anyone can remember this one, it was from a tv series.
Everytime I hear it, I just want to get out into the open.
'Maybe' by Thom Pace from the series 'Grizzly Adams'.
Here are the lyrics:

Deep inside the forest
Is a door into another land
Here is our life and home
We are staying, here forever
In the beauty of this place all alone
We keep on hopi-in'

Maybe
There's a world where we don't have to run
And maybe
There's a time we'll call our own
Livin' free in harmony and majesty
Take me ho-ome
Take me home

Walkin' through the land
Where every living thing is beautiful
Why does it have to end
We are calling, oh so sadly
On the whispers of the wind
As we send a dying message

Maybe
There's a world where we don't have to ru-un
Maybe
There's a time we'll call our own
Livin' free in harmony and majesty
Take me ho-ome
Take me home

(Maybe)
There's a world where we don't have to ru-un
Maybe
There's a time we'll call our own
Livin' free in harmony and majesty
Take me ho-ome
Take me home

(Maybe)
Maybe there's a world where we don't have to ru-un
Maybe
There's a time we'll call our own
Livin' free in harmony and majesty
Take me ho-ome
Take me home (fade)

I like this one and first heard hit sung by The Dubliners on an old LP of my parents:
O come a' ye tramps and hawker-lads
an' gaitherers o' bla'
That tramp the country roun' and roun',
come listen one and a'
I'll tell tae ye a rovin' tale,
an' places I hae been
Far up into the snowy north,
or sooth by Gretna Green.

I've seen the high Ben Nevis
that gangs towerin' tae the moon
I've been roun' by Crieff an' Callander
an' by Bonny Doon
I've been by Nethy's silvery tide
an' places ill tae ken
Far up into the stormy north
lies Urquart's fairy glen

Sometimes noo I laugh tae mysel'
when dodgin' alang the road
Wi' a bag o' meal slung upon my back,
my face as broun's a toad
Wi' lumps o'cheese and tattie-scones
or breid an' braxie ham
Nae thinking whar' I'm comin' frae
nor thinkin' whar I'm gang.

I'm happy in the summer-time
beneath the dark blue sky
Nae thinkin' in the mornin'
at nicht where i'm gang to lie
Bothies or byres or barns,
or oot amangst the hay
And if the weather does permit,
I'm happy a' the day.

Loch Katrine and Loch Lomond,
they've oft been seen by me
The Dee, the Don, the Devron,
that a' flows tae the sea
Dunrobin Castle, by the way,
I nearly had forgot
And the reckless stanes o'cairn
that mairks the hoose o' John
o' Groat.

I've been by bonny Gallowa',
an' often roun' Stranraer
My business leads me anywhere,
I travel near an' far
I've got that rovin' notion
I wouldna like tae loss
For It's my daily fare
an' as much'll pay my doss.

I think I'll gang tae Paddy's Lan',
I'm makin' up my mind
For Scotland's greatly altered noo,
I canna raise the wind
But if I can trust in Providence,
if Providence should prove true
I'll sing ye's a' of Erin's Isle
when I come back to you.

this is one of my favouite songs, that i sung when i was little. it always remainded me that there was life beyond school.

My paddle's keen and bright
Flashing with silver
Follow the wild goose flight
Dip, dip and swing
Dip, dip and swing her back
Flashing with silver
Swift as the wild goose flies
Dip, dip and swing

Land of the silver birch
Home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose
Wanders at will
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

High on a rocky ledge
I¹ll build my wigwam
Close to the water¹s edge
Silent and still
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

My heart grows sick for thee
Here in the lowlands
I will return to thee hills of the north
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

Land of the silver birch
Home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose
Wanders at will
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

Ooooo, someone else who knows Jethro Tull and Iron Maiden. Are we a nature loving bunch of rockers??

Well, Innocent Bystander's avatar and occasional.sig from Stormwatch are a bit of a giveaway  ...

How about Mike Oldfields Tubular bells?

But I thought you looked a bit clean-cut for a S&D&R&R type, and does Mike Oldfield count? (why don't we have the "million laughing heads" smiley no more?)

Anyway, Runrig for me, please. "May morning" on the stereo as I type. And a dull work-related task keeping me in (from which I'm skiving)

Metallica for "Urban Bushcraft" perhaps:

Of (Pagan)wolf and man
Wherever I may roam
...etc...
Like this game :D :D

Jim.

In case anyone missed it, look up now :D

Just thought of another one tho', does anyone remember "the littlest hobo" - the series about the GSD that runs around saving everyone from depression and debt ? The tune was quite cool.

Maybe tommorow i'll wanna settle down, but 'til tommorow i'll just keep roamin' on.

Or something like that anyway :)

Well, if we're going for more obscure stuff, has anyone heard of the Levellers or Rev Hammer? Top tunes with fiddles and a didj.

Maybe it's just me that remembers them?

usually end up singing (badly) some of New Model Army's old back catalogue.

Johnny Cash wrote some mean songs whilst I think about it.

Also, could someone remind me no to post after a bottle of wine and half a dozen whiskys - as I'll probably regret owning up to some of these musical influences in the morning! :D

Yep I love there stuff. I have a recent greatest hits compilation that has some excellent remixes as a bonus CD. As soon as the come on I am on the move. I as off all week last week and I have a Lonely Planet compilation of Ozzy music traditional and new and it was truly wonderful. I really do love the sound of the diggi.

Whats the name of the intsrument that make the weird noise when swung. It's in Crocadile Dundee II? My brother heading there in September and I was going to ask him too get me one.

I also like the little hobo one.
