Just voted on the lifesaver thread, and it got me to thinking I left the Augies last year, I was trained as a medic and reached the advanced first aid stage. I know that if in the wilderness, I could probably save life and limb and have to do some of the yukkie stuff to do it, but what I was wondering, are there any specific courses aimed at this type of advanced stuff in civvi street and is it affordable for us types that are under the 20k wage?

Does anyone think that it might be a good idea to have some sort of bush medical forum here, or am I being stupid and there already is one?

It's primarily aimed at doctors but there is a lot of information that is good for people with a reasonable level of training FAW or higher too look at and learn from. There's a lot of specialist terminology such as names of drugs etc but still an excellent read with lots of tips on improvising stretchers, splints, slings and others from equipment you may be carrying or what you can find when out5 in the wilds. Can anyone recomend a good First Aid book that is aimed at the type of injuries etc that we ae likely to come across but which starts at a beginner level and explins up from there.

I'd like one of those too, John.
However, I would recommend, "Where there is no doctor" by David Werner, and "Where there is no Dentist" by Murray Dickson.

These aren't replacements for a Doctor or a Dentist but as good background knowledge they are excellent and they are meant to be easily understood and the details remembered.

Adviseable only to use it in combination with your knowledge gained at a Bush Medic course (as like the one described in de review section - by Brian).
