Surprisingly few roads in this country until very recently. Most goods were moved by water, by sledges or pack ponies. It appears that the wheelbarrow is a much underrated conveyance :)

It's informative posts like these that keep the old methods alive.

It would take me many lifetimes of getting it wrong to even get close to producing a wheelbarrow like that.
