Budget South American knife

I saw a low price (£30) knife the other day that looks just like those that cost £100 more but close up the difference was clear. The edge was poor but it would no doubt sharpen up okay. Anyone know anything about them? I guess it would depend on the metal used as to whether it would be worth the effort to sharpen one. They are apparently from South America.
I was told some people have bought them to put on a different handle (although that was not my concern).

Tramontina who make machetes and knives are made in Brazil. Their blades are good steel and are what the indigenous people use. Not a particlarly good finish, but good for the money.

general consensus is pretty crap according to the guys on british blades.

Useful - thanks. The report on here was a bit more positive but on balance it's probably worth giving it a miss.
