I saw a low price (£30) knife the other day that looks just like those that cost £100 more but close up the difference was clear. The edge was poor but it would no doubt sharpen up okay. Anyone know anything about them? I guess it would depend on the metal used as to whether it would be worth the effort to sharpen one. They are apparently from South America.
I was told some people have bought them to put on a different handle (although that was not my concern).

Tramontia do indeed do good stuff...though not spectacular.
