broken steel

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I assume you have tried it and it dosn't work - not sure if it is a quick quench or a slow cool....if it's a slow cool it could be ok i guess!

Throw it in the fire, get it to non magnetic and then quench (Water should be fine) the first 10mm of it after a couple of seconds, drop the whole thing in the quenchant to cool down. Getting it to non magnetic can be tough though without some decent charcoal/coal and a blower. If its hard enough a file should slide right off it.

get ya bbq going will be great in this weather, chuck a bag of charcoal on, chuck it in it will get dull red in no time, use a magnet to check, then dunk it in cold water, and dont forget your steaks they will burn :)
