What is that material used for the handle?
No disrespect but it looks like fossilized pea soup!
And pentagram mosaic pins - very intimidating!
The quality of the workmanship looks terrific!

They colored the resin they use for stabilising the wood. The impregnate the wood with resin. This makes it much harder and it won't be prone to shrinking.

Lots of info on wood to be found here:
http://www.stabilizedwood.com/

As for the knife...well, they look pretty expensive for what they are. I mean the F1s are listed as $349.95, knocked down to $270.96, but anyone can buy the blades at retail for $70 and a block of stabilized wood for $20 or a little less (ok, dyed wood is a bit more).

Its like UK prices, but in Dollars :lmao: If you had one shipped here, and got hit for duty, VAT and handling, you could double that price.

I agree, I'd rather buy a blade, scales and pins then get someone over on british baldes to do a custom job or even give it a bash myself. It'd prob be half the price and better quality :)

That's just Fugly.

Step one, take the knife I hate more than any other

Step two, take some wood that was rejected by "pimp my ride" as "too garish"

Step three meld the two into something that looks like a knife thrown up during an outtake of the exorcist.

I didn't think anyone could make that knife worse.

I was wrong

Oh and you can tell Mike I said so :D

The banks of the Deveron.
Blimey - get off the fence Red!

I have to confess to not being a fan of the colour, nor mosaic pins overly but that is beautiful in it's craftsmanship.

Oh and my next little project is an F1 in desert iron wood burr and a handmade sheath for half that in £s.

When I get the chance.

Or I may dye it green......

I like Falkniven knives. :D
I like mosaic pins.
I actually think that green resin stabilised burr stuff is pretty.
My second favourite knife is a BRKT mini Canadian with faux tortoiseshell scales and mosaic pins :approve:

I do think the price is ridiculous though

cheers,
Toddy

p.s Okay, I agree £160 isn't ridiculous but the thread looked as though it were going to cost £200+ by the time the knife was brought here.

'tis about £140 ish,I think thats a similar sort of price to an F1 with micarta scales.
As with the other bark river stuff,I presume you can order it with any wood you like.
Re-profiling the blade is easy enough.IIRC Shinkin did a superb job on his, without even loosing the blade etch.

I feel the same about the blade. It's still too thick and crude for my taste. I do like the handle though. BRKT makes one of the finest handles i can think of. The price is indeed too steep, but it's about the same as a micarta F1. I wouldn't buy one. Reprofiling may be an option.

Gentlemen,

Thought I would clear this up for you.

BRK&T is NOT Offering these Knives.

We offer Our own Knives.

One of our Best Dealers--Derrick from Knives Ship Free--has contracted with us to install handles on these blades.

He gives us Guide Lines as to Materials-Pins Etc.

We do Zero to the Blade itself. It is masked off while the handle is being installed and finished off.

We ship the Finished Knife back to him--in labeled product boxes--Derrick provides the Sheaths.

Bottom line is that these are not BRK&T Products--we are just the handle scale installers.

Derrick has sent us a lot of blades and we try to fit them in as we can.

Our Production is now booked up well into March of 2008 so it is not easy to fit them in.

Thanks,

Mike
