I made one from some 1" x 1/4" mild steel though it does need 1/2cwt. of coalite to run best. Lit with kindling one filling will burn all night without tending, its certainly made a few winter camps in the hills Enjoyable i.e. above Sell gill on Penyghent in Feburary

A Hobo stove can be made from a billy/large jam tin/any large tin by punching lots of good size holes in it, shoving a couple of steel tent pegs across holes at the top and standing it on three or four rocks to give air flow underneath.
It will not last forever so you will get practice in buiding them!

I'm with Wayland here.... I picked up a stainless steel cutlery drainer from a charity shop for 20p...... it works a treat :D
