I have spoken with the site and they have made the following comments: (Please bear in mind that the scouts would be on site at the same time as the camp)

1 They would need a copy of BCUK child protection policy
2 People camping would need to present a CRB certificate
3 Axes and knives only used in the activity area and not carried generally onsite

It would be possible to run mid-week evening sessions (without camping) on site because in winter nobody really uses the site. The weekends are generally busy now right up to CHristmas.

If there is a big enough need, I will make arrangements with the site and book a weekend and also book evening sessions.... if you can follow my drift as it is Friday afternoon and time to go home!

Hello,

The policy would not take much to sort out, copy somebody else's and then publish it here - this will cover BCUK for future events.

CRB checks are about £35 pounds but some people can get them through their work if they volunteer for childrens charity stuff. etc. If poeple are committed to regular meets at B Woods then I think that it is a worthwhile investment. No CRB needed on an evening becuase generally there are no young peolel about.

What a sad world we live in.

Are people interested ???

Many people on here hold CRB certificates from other organizations or the work they do.

But the child protection policy is more complicated than simple cut and paste.

The only option that could make this work would be to form a sub group where CRB was a requirement and such a policy could be properly implemented.

Although that might be possible it does somewhat fly in the face of the open ethos of this site and many of the people on it.

Under the current state of paranoia that this country is suffering I suspect this is a problem that will increase rather than go away. :(

If the majority of people hold CRB (especially scout or other similar youth organisations)then I will ask if the child protection policy is necessary in light of the comments made here. Maybe I could negotiate with the site. Let me get back to you all.
