Just one bushy prezzie today but it's the one I REALLY wanted:

1 gransfors bruks Small forest axe, with ray mears symbol from his shop.

It was made by KS which apparantley is kjell-ake sjolund........try saying that when you're drunk!

Anyway have been using it all day and it's superb!! must get hold of some decent carving woods, any suggestions??

Ah Happy Birthday :D Hope it's a good one, and the axe does sound like it was

Carving ? oh well, most woods carve but Lime is superb, Oak can be beautiful, Cherry is lovely, Hornbeam is a nightmare when it's been seasoned at all  so, so hard, but beautiful too. Rowan and Ash have a very smooth look, and if they're spalted there's this wonderful dark grey patterning, Holly is a crisp clear white, Yew is such a golden rich colour......maybe we ought to ask what have you got growing around you that you can get at ?
Even the bag of sticks from the garage forecourts will carve and let you practice. Simple things like making fine feather sticks is good practice for axe control and the chunks will let you rough out spoons and ladles too.

Enjoy the axe and your birthday, :D
