Do you think they would be directly comparable ??

Just make a google search for [canvas canoe]. It is actually a different kind of canoe, but it has its appeal, especially for some folks.

One good point is that is actually easier to get good canvas than it is to come accross the right birch bark.

No, I think it is different. The birch bark is the base of the birch bark canoe, while the framework makes the base of a canvas canoe.

In other words you'd be better off making the frame first with the canvas.
