Title speaks for it self. Though, I'm specifically looking for something on the cheap side of things... as long as it does the job, I don't mind what it is. I'm mainly wanting it for everything - filleting fish, cutting fungi, sharpening things. Direct links to websites would be great.

Cheers

Can't go wrong with a Mora, don't have a link as using my phone but I think Springfield's still have them on sale, £9 for the clipper, and they do a variety of colours.

Cheap and does _everything_? Can we take it that you want it to do everything well too?

You seek The Holy Grail!

Almost every knife can do almost everything ;)

If you're after a knife which punches above it's price weight look at the Mora and Hultafors ranges.

A knife which carves wood well is unlikely to make a good food prep knife as well, something like a Mora or Hulti Craftsman for bushie stuff backed up with an Opinel no. 8 or 9 for food prep and as a bird and trout knife works very well. Heinnies'll sell you the pair for well under £20

Pretty decent looking for the price. Plus that opinel would go well with a red deer antler as a handle (I've been looking for a knife that would fit well and look right for a while now).

Cheers

chester
so i have three knives.

1. woodlore
2. falkniven f1
3. mora

the woodlore has never left its box :p

the F1 is usually on my belt when i am out and gets used for gralloching deer

the mora (multiple knives) do all the heavy work and skinning.

As Adze says. Filleting, chopping and whittling require differences in the blades ;) .
Unless you're this guy, he's a law unto himself and will fillet, whittle and baton his knife at will (Or at John, Jim, Jess ... ;) )

And as you've probably guessed, we see a fair share of 'Holy Grail' and 'One Ring' questions on these boards ;)

I'm new to this too, so I bought the Mora Carbon Steel, it has a squared of 'spine' so that its good to use on ferrorods too. Ive used it for battoning wood, making feather sticks, food prep too lol. I think I paid circa 30 quid on Amazon...I think its a great starter blade at a good price although it isnt a full tang steel which I know many do recommend, something to improve your skills on before going for something more expensive.
The sheath isnt great but holds the blade ok.

Hope this helps.

Awrighty laddies

After reading on all your comments, I finally decided on these two:

https://www.springfields.co.uk/mora-546-stainless-steel-knife.html
https://www.springfields.co.uk/mora-filleting-knife.html

I also decided to get this while I was at it since it was fairly cheap:

https://www.springfields.co.uk/fire-starting-kit-in-tin.html

I was about to buy this mushroom knife also until I realized it was out of stock... it might possibly be in stock if I go to the store and buy it, so we'll see. If not then I can always check again next week.

I might end up buying this saw next week too, along with some sort of machete even though I have no idea what purpose it would server other than to look cool :lmao:

Cheers everyone for the help, I really would have had no idea where to even start without it
