I wanted to say a big thanks to all of you that have given your thoughts , best wishes and prayers to me and my daughters. I don't know of any other comunity that is as supportive as you guys . The last week or so has been hard for me and my girls , but i think we are starting to come to terms with the loss of my wife . My doctor has been really good and me and the girls have been given a berevment councilor .
I was my wifes carer for nearly 15 years , and now i find myself in the situation where i need to get a job and earn my own money . Not sure what to do though , i am unskilled for the workplace , and need a job that fits round school hours . I am 33 so i know its not going to be an easy task , but will get there in the end .
Hope to see a few of you at the next moot , to sink a few round the fire .
Once again , a big thanks for being who you are .

Good to hear from you, look forward to seeing you at a meetup in the future (bring the girls and the pup), I can gaurentee that you have skills that you haven't even thought about, so keep your chin up mate and hope to see you soon,

Leon:)

Yep. Will be good to raise a glass with you round the fire mate. Definitely bring the girls and the old Bacon hunter.
:)

It is good to hear from you, and I hope there is a calm for you all with lots of good people about.

On the job front, if you have been a carer for all these years then you are unlikely to have done any tertiary education. Why not find something you would like to pursue and find out about student funding to get the qualifications to apply for college, university or the like. The timetabling would fit relatively well with the girls schooling so might limit family disruption as well as giving you the foundations of a good career.
I know the monies available aren't wonderful, but I have three friends who went to uni while rearing their families, and with care and patience it's been a major benefit to their lives.

atb,
Mary

Hi Pumba.....Wish you all the best mate, hope something crops up for you. As the others have said, it would be good to see you again....

Good to hear that you and the girls are getting back on track after your bereavement.
I agree with Toddy about seeking some qualifications;ask around about grants etc.
BTW,15 years as a full time carer is one hell of a qualification if you felt like pursuing that line of work.

Best of luck Pumbaa. Your posts have always been very clear and articulate. I know a lot of people with good brains but but no paper qualifications (I went to a fairly grotty comprehensive school, so I know  ). So I do not doubt that you'll get yourself a decent job.

I'd agree with the comments about education/training though I realise the logistics/financial issues can seem a bit overwhelming.

It's good that you're looking to make a plan for the future. I'm sure there will be plenty of ups and downs and on the bad days, just remember the number of people who have shown their good wishes for you and try to take heart from it..... :)

Like Leon said, I bet you have some skills which you dont really know about which can do alot for you!

All the best to you and your daughters, and if you ever need a helping hand or advice on anything, you know everyone at BCUK is here when you need them.

Cheers :)
