Right then, here we go with the last "adults only" bushcraft event at Chopwell for 2008:

It's our "Bark Container Workshop" in which we will be not only making bark containers but also gathering all the materials required for the job.

This will involve the selection and harvesting of some suitable sized ash saplings, as well as the location and collection of spruce root for sewing the containers together.

The ash saplings will also provide the raw materials for the tools required for digging up and stripping the spruce root.

We will be concentrating on making simple containers, very similar to the ash bark container made by Ray Mears in one of his skill sets features but not quite the same:cool:

We will collect enough materials to make a pair of containers each and anything you make is your's and can be taken away with you at the end of the day.

Stripping the bark from an ash log, felled last summer by powerline contractors:

The whole "skin" is removed using a "spud" or chisel ended stick to help ease the bark away from the wood:

Im confused?? Is that all, or is there more to follow on how to make the container??

No problem, here you go Stu:;)
ignore the ones at the front, they are birch bark. We will be making a simpler version of the tall one on the right.

We will, most definitely, be making, at least one bark container each!

Cheers
