Bamboo Salt Lick

Came across this in a rural market in central Malaya

Salt is placed inside and the holes, humidity and occassional rain drops ensure the outside of the cylinder is constantly salty.

Deer come along and lick it and get speared.

I am not sure whether the spear is from a hunter in wait or from a spear trap. Was preoccuppied and din't think to ask.

Does anyone know of similar salt lures?

Interesting contraption, I have never heard of something like that used in hunting.
Is it placed tactically on a deer trail or can they smell the salt from a longer distance?

There are loads of salt licks etc available from bushwear in Stirling, I assume for the same thing except with a rifle rather than a spear
