Basically I'm curious as to what is in an army surplus store. There used to be army and navy stores all over the place and army surplus stores too. Was one in Lancaster near the back of the old woolies store. I never went in.

Anyway I am now curious in case there is some gear or clothing that I am missing that is worth having. Is there any such store within reasonable travelling of say Lancaster??

Also what would be worth looking for say in the categories of clothing, rucksacks, shelter or cooking kit?

:)

Things I've personally bought from surplus stores..
Arctic sleeping bags,
Bivi bags,
58' pattern water bottles,
Crusader mugs etc

Its all built to last and cheap but relatively heavy if you are planning on carrying it far

GR RD Taylor in Kirkby Lonsdale is well worth a look, they do some milsurp, plus all sorts of camping and outdoor gear, reasonable selection of knives, pretty much the full GB range etc etc.

I was just thinking there was a company called SSAS in Lancaster. Is that still open and does it have a proper shop with surplus in? Or was it SASS?
