Just something I picked up at the recent Retro Camping Equipment Meet-up.

A simple little copper spirit burner, stand and fuel bottle that nest into a tinned kettle with a lid.

It came with a fairly knackered leather box which I may replace at some stage and the fuel bottle leaks in a couple of places so I'll have to solder that but otherwise it seems to work well enough if a bit slowly.

I am wondering about repairing / replacing the rush bindings on the kettle handles.

I reckon it should be straight forward enough if I have the right materials.

I'm wondering if strips of candle-rush would do the job?

Rattan will be stronger.
get a piece from an old chair or summat.
Boil or steam until soft

Mesquite has offered me some rattan to experiment with this weekend.

There is a patent for it dated 1919 so I assume it is around that old.
