T'was just the very tip of my left thumb. I was incredibly lucky.

I was holding the kindling (Don't do that any more) and it split a bit more readily than I was expecting. I felt it knock my thumb, looked, saw claret, ran inside and wrapped it in a wad of kitchen roll. Didn't dare look at it for about 30 minutes for fear of what I would find.

something similar happenned to me but in a remote forest,while preparing wood for hobo stove for a quick tea. now when i carve with a hatchet i use a glove for spare hand (but not allways) ... axe use is bare hands for me...

patrick:this particular hatchet glitters,and a old saying says: all glitters is not gold! but might be fine!
