One thing to note with Ashmead's Kernel is that it's a triploid apple, i.e. it needs two other apple varieties to pollinate unless you have a self-fertile variety in which case you just need one!
If I was getting just one tree and wasn't sure on pollination I'd get an Orleans Reinette, great flavour and can be used for a cooker too, I've only got those on M9 though
Very interested in the cider trees wattsy - I have the perfect spot for them Deserts and cookers I have in abundance, but no cider apples ! Could find space for all of them and save on the postage!
