I used too, lovely to keep but to use, not so good, not too bad on game but not much use for anything else. good steel but the grind is a bit delicate. Oh and with it being so "robust" i used it for hacking at branches when i was younger, with that and batoning the blade has started to loosen, Plus seems a bit thin for the task, since then i've stopped using it. but still a very nice bit of american history to keep. i'm pretty sure Ontario do a much better version.

Don't get me wrong though, i do love the knife still. One of my favourite knives for large game, but you can't beat a mearsy design in my opinion. Would love to try the ontario one tho!

Sorry, rambling now. Any questions just ask. I'll lend it rather than you waste your money if you like. you can ask a million people what they think but its your own opinion of a knife that counts. Everyone's needs differ.

I had one, but gave it away. The handle is weak and the leather disks will shrink over time, get loose and are difficult to repair.

I would much rather have a full tang knife of just about any design than a leather handle one.

I have one, all be it mine is a Camillus not K-Bar. It is a good knife up to a point. That is I find it a good chopper, not too bad for heavy cutting, not great for carving type work and the sharpened rear of the blade along the clip-point is a pain in the proverbial.
All in all, for bushcraft I prefer a Frosts, but I reckon you could get by with the USMC bowie if it was all you had.

I used Ontario USMC for some years, basically the same thing as Ka-Bar,but I switched to SP-1,some better, but need some work on blade.USMC type knives are robust and not designed for fine working but for all excessive and improper use by average soldier.Don't know about Ka-Bar,but leather stacked handle on my Ontario and crossguard held very well in all condition.

Iv had a mini-KABAR since me and my family took a trip to California, if a mini counts. The hilt and wood grip iritates my hand, but it looks and smells good. Nice sheath too but Iv hear that all the KABAR sheaths are defective in holding the blade.

I used an Ontario USMC for years in the forces and it always performed admirably in all cirumstances and some conditions and chores were pretty bad. There has never been a problem with the leather shrinking or loosening. I have a later "Kabar 2000" (I think it was called!), same shape but way more modern and again excellent! Don't use them much now but no need for a 'tactical' knife now I've "retired". You could do worse but there are lots of good knives on BB for similar money if you keep your eyes peeled!
