I slept out in my garden only once.. I had a rat run over me..I was on a camp cot under a tarp. I sqeaked better than the rat!!! :)
Nowadays, a new very bright led road lamp shines into the garden all night, despite complaints to the council about supposed to be be living in a dark sky reserve, and can they please turn it off when all the others go off at 11pm, it still shines all night long.! Not conducive to sleep. That, and a slope I could toboggan down quite happily, puts garden overnights off the menu. I still have fires, cook food, and do other bushcrafty things in the garden though.

I have often given new, home made, gear a trial run but using it in my garden - tarps, ground mats, hammocks, sleeping bags etc etc. Luckily I have trees enough to hang hammocks etc and flat enough bits for ground dwelling :)

Nothing dedicated as such, but if it stops raining for long enough this Easter, my plan is to create a slightly more permanent setup = cut some bushes back and put down a bit of ground cover to make a nicer place for the fire pit.

I usually do a night or two a month when I don’t need to be with it early in the morning. The Owls at the bottom of the garden sometimes keep me awake. :)

I am lucky to live adjacent to a nature reserve so I can sit up and spot quiet a lot of nighttime wildlife.

It is a good opportunity to try out different set ups, tarps pitches and fire lays. I haven’t played around with hot tenting so building a tent stove is on the project list.
I try and incorporate a random bit of improvised kit from the garage like making a tarp from a pond liner or making cordage and pegs from different objects.

When the kids were in infants school we used to cook a afternoon meal and set up a tarp camp most on the way home. Usually with 3-4 other children in tow, kept them all entertained for several hours and probably healthier than the Xbox.

I was given this pack-away fire pit. Goes in afoot long bag about 4 inches square. Quite nice in the garden as I can move the fire easily and position it closer to the mixer fridge….. :p

Not really the garden but a 10 minute walk along the stream out the back. A very tranquil meander, a few people walking by to say hello. A good spot for second breakfast!

Thank you and I’m lucky to have it on the doorstep. It’s actually got housing on three sides but is still largely quiet mid-morning on a weekday. Occasionally I meet someone trying to fish.

I think it would be too obvious a spot to over night and you’d attract attention but a quiet hour sheltered from traffic noise in the shade is not to be missed. :)

Huge amounts of Ransoms grow along the bank, Fox den on the opposite side, Yaffle nest is nearby, Chub and Dace (not the band) in the river. Happy days!
