Anyone a fan of tinned fish?

4 fish!, not worth £2.50, but at least they are bigger fish than my Costco tins of mediterranean sardines. The fish are smaller but packed in tight, and cost a lot less than that. I'm a bit of a fan, gound black pepper, salt, and a salad, Yum!

Even the non-vintage version of this seems to be priced at around €3 a tin...

Anyway, lesson learnt.

I had a tin of octopus today.

It was nice enough, but certainly not worth the €7.85 that I paid for it.

Thin slices of tentacle, in olive oil, quite bland.

Does cod roe count?

I'm late to the party having been in Australia for 5 months, with more to do than surf the 'net, but smoked cod's roe, finely mixed 50/50 with unsalted butter and a squeeze of lemon juice is transcendentally delicious.

Cod roe used to be a staple and one of my favourites at the chip shop, all gone now. Tesco sell tinned cod roe but @ £2.85 for 500g it probably isn't going to be one of my buys.
