Many years ago I nearly applied to work as a British Antarctic Survey doctor, but then I met this nurse and ...well, other things took priority. Would still love to go.

I see the Antarctic Heritage Trust are offering a 5 month assistant post in the Antarctic summer at Port Lockroy:

http://www.ukaht.org/

They're looking for someone with wild camping experience as facilities are, er, basic. People skills are also required.

I've too many commitments, but someone here might be interested.

Good man!

The pay is peanuts but as a tourist trip to Antactica is £6k or so, I think they will get plenty of applicants.

Just had a thumbs up from wifely to apply! Didn't even need to do the puppy eyes or stamp my feet? Too easy me thinks?

You better be asking yourself what's she after :lmao:

Just a thought... all she's done is give you permission to apply... not actually go... what a crafty ploy

Just a word of advice; If you think you've got the necessaries, then go for it or regret it for the rest of your life!

As a young Ordinary Seaman, I boarded the Antarctic Survey's, RRS John Biscoe berthed in Southampton in 1971 for a job interview. To my recollection, I was interviewed by the 1st Mate who seemed somewhat tight-lipped and I was quite phased by the seemingly esoteric replies to my questions of where she was bound and ports of call. To put it crudely, I was looking for adventure and the trip didn't offer much scope for meeting girls!

In the same month, I told a mate that I'd heard the schooner Sir Winston Churchill was crewing up. I agreed to meet him in a bar and he bought me a bottle of beer which I didn't want but had a few sips of, as I was eager to get aboard. The Skipper and Mate of Sir Winston Churchill told us that they often had impressionable, sometimes vulnerable young people on board, and that 18 year old crew members who smell of beer weren't best suited and we were escorted ashore!

I still feel like giving myself a slap every time I think about it!

Cheers,

Pango.

I applied for a tech support job out there a couple of years ago.
Didn't get it, but often wonder what it would have been like if I'd got it.

Remove the location and the job is for a minimum wage shop assistant.

Hahahahaha yup, but the location makes the job, and the minimum wage covers %70 of the child care cost which is my current job at home:) application filled, cv written and attached, letter to write :), if lucky (BIG IF!) I will want you address Richard, to send you a post card each week from my minimum wage shop assistants job! and maybe a cuddly gentoo too!:p

Im quiet between those dates, so might give it ago, just for the adventure, I could write a book 'penguin! the complete recipe' lol

well it'd make a nice change if nothing else, and the "photo's from the meet" thread would be something a bit special

Get on it dudes! it would be brilliant if someone here got it, could send letters back for updates and pics!
