I recently got my hands on some Alder thanks to Lupus and had a go at a Kuksa.

Nice work! I've just been carving some alder spoons and it's a dream to work, isn't it?

Alder is great to carve as it is so soft,but I had to take care as big lumps were coming away if I got carried away.
