I was just thinking about the knife... the sheath takes it to another level. It's one of those... "I don't know how that's done" moments.
Is it embossed from the back to bring it out then the detail reworked from the front?
Is it done flat then rollled to make the sheath?
Cheers,
Steve
Hi Steve!
Let me give you some info on the emboss. Is´t made after the sheath is sewed and wetformed around the knife. As a matter of fact, I did the detail job during a session of Ray Mears DVD viewing with the family

The fact is the sheath turned out to be slightly too wide, and do an emboss needs some extra leather to work so the "fault" suited the purpose.
I use my fingers, pushed towards the middle of the sheath or shape wanted, building up the bevel structure as you go over the sheath, to form the rough shape, beginning when the leather have dryed for some time. The sew part takes about 15-20 minutes so after that it´s a good time to start forming the emboss motive.
Then I let it dry for some more, time depending of the thickness and type of the leather (I have used shaft leather in this sheath). Then I use a leather modeling tool, usually the spoon shaped one and woring to fix the shape in the leather, and adding details, smaller details can be put to place after different stages of drying, it´s hard to tell exactly.
Then it´s a couple of hours work, you need to fix the details several times until the leather have dryed ready.
Cheers,
