It is made from burr alder - it's the first time I've worked really burry wood and it was surprisingly easy as you can cut it in any direction. It does tend to be a bit chippy at the edges so needs care when doing the handle and rim.
It is just finished with cold pressed linseed like all our stuff. I've never had any problems with them cracking and have never felt the need for any of that boiling that folk seem to do with them.
