Hey man,

Here's my video --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2Zsu1UKgPs

I've been practicing hand drill for under two years, so it doesn't take that long if you're persistent. I know for a fact that Dale from Learn Bushcraft in the video you linked has only been practicing floating hands for less than three months, so as you see, the skill can be picked up fairly quickly.

Good luck!

impressive!

I've seen it done on a dry day in under 15seconds, not seen the 'floating hands' before though, excellent stuff!

cheers

Thanks! I've been meaning to make an instructional video explaining how to practice the technique, but I haven't gotten to it yet--hopefully soon.

I do know that Dale from Learn Bushcraft UK has one uploaded. He's an excellent instructor--> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns8UMJ5WM3g

I came into contact with him through youtube a few months ago. He's a great guy, and highly skilled. If I were in the UK, I would definitely check out some of his classes. His website is linked from his youtube page, if you're interested.

Aside from his instruction, check this out --> http://wildwoodsurvival.com/survival/fire/handdrill/floating/floating.html

This has got to be the best (and probably the only) guide on the net explaining this technique.

That should give you a good start. If you run into any problems or have any questions, feel free to hit me up. I'm sure there are others on this site who are well-versed in this technique as well.

Have fun!

Ethan,

For whatever reason I haven't previously clicked on your youtube link but managedto find the same (and the other three) vids that you've done by searching the topic.

Anyway, WOW & OMG!!!!! I've never tried the hand drill but when I do (probably this weekend) I've got to have a go at this technique.

Ethan, that was a great technique you have there, amazingly fast. That really allows you to move away from the long drills that can be much harder to source.

Floating is going on my learning agenda this year - because it's useful!
