I've been reading about waterstones, ceramics ect... but what about h cheap sharpening stones you get from the good old pound shop? are they any good? why dont people buy these?
I dislike them because I find they sharpen very slowly, wear away too easily and generally just don't do a particularly good job. Maybe I've just gotten unlucky, though
These cheap stones are generally too course for putting a fine edge on a blade.
If you are after a cheap sharpening set look a the stickies in this part of the forum for instance the £5 sharpening kit look here
Norton India stones are alumium oxide, they are good for general on site carpentery but not fine enough for cabinet grade fine finishing. Depends on your intended uses for your edge tool's. I got a 2 sided one for about £12. I think they are american made?
