I've got my hands on an older mora with a carbon steel blade that I'm planning on re-handling. This is the first time I've tried anything like this so any hints and tips before I start would be most welcome. Even the ones you think would be obvious, I have been known to rush ahead of myself with projects so anything is welcomed. I'm planning on a concealed thru tang, stacked construction type of thing with a mixture of brass antler and hardwood.

I've seen vulcanised fibre on some websites but would I be able to use felt layers as spacers

Rob, I have some thin sheets of buffalo horn somewhere; would you like them? I think felt might prove to be a problem since it can really soak up water and keep things damp.

cheers,
Mary

If you use felt be sure to inpregnate it with epoxy, then no troubles with water.
Here is how I do it.
1) take two boards and wrap each with clear cling wrap (one layer)
2) take your epoxy soaked felt and lay it on aboard
3) put the other board on top and weight it down, forget it for 24 hours, or until the epoxy is dry
4) when all is dry remove the felt from the boards, the cling wrap will be glued to the felt (don't worry about this, the wrap will never show on the edges)
5) cut to shape and use :)
Hope this helps you, I have used this method when I did not have any vulcanised fiber and it works well.
