I have had success with Maya Dust on a number of occassions, normally when demonstrating what a complete waste of time it is, you have normally mentioned that "this stuff is useless" and "the only decent thing is the tin" and then the demo you cast a shower of sparks and lo and behold the stuff lights maing you look a complete numpty

Maya sticks are good on the other hand, I tend to cut the sticks into lengths about 4 inches long and use them more along the lines of a candle once lit. Once the fire has taken I bring them out of the fire and blow them out.
