Ok ok, I get the hint. Yes, you can sew thin leather on a domestic sewing machine. You need to keep it at it's widest stitch and loosen off the tension a bit. If the thread snaps frequently, it's too tight. Best also to use bonded polyester thread.
I'll knock one up tomorrow and post it on this thread.
Eric
Cheers for checking this thread out Eric. Well, I didn't intend to push you towards making one, but a few ideas of possible problems that could occur. I just put a button hole in my windproof smock. I now know what the plastic slidey thing that goes on the foot bit is for which I didn't use! It is a mess, but it works!
The only thing that worries me is the leather getting marked by the toothy things that moves the cloth on. Also, what is the thinnest leather that could be used and what particular type of leather? I quite like the design of the envelope wrapped cover you see!
Of course, before making it, a suitable book would be needed to put inside, much easier that way I suppose than making it and trying to find a notebook to fit!
Any thoughts on that Eric? Also, do you think we should get a Mod to open up a new thread and post all of this in there as this thread has gone way off topic by now!
