A Strange Thing Happened

A strange thing has happened, firstly I have had to admit defeat on making an F1 to the standard that I like, a good mate and good mod, asked me if I could make him an F1, he would provide the blade (a production run F1 with the thermorun stripped off) and I was going to make the knife for him.

Well I was not happy with the results of my toil, so I thought sod it!!!
However that would not of been fair on Roving Rich and I did have an F1 blade sitting around doing nothing so Rich is getting that instead. This was the result of a hacked off leon-1 and an F1 in the workshop for a little time.

Now Rich hasn't seen it yet so if nobody mentions it I'll appreciate it:D

The second really strange thing was someone asked me if I could make a "Girlie" knife, I had to look up the expression believing that they were talking about some type of woodlore clone. It turned out that they were talking about a pretty looking small knife suitable for the fairer sex:D. Apparently they are supposed to look something like this.

Not very good piccies I am afraid:eek:

Super work Leon really nice. Oddly, It really like the WM1...that looks capable of most things I do with a knife and small enough to be "precise"

Lovely work made.

Now as for stripping the themorun handles off....you need more practice mate ;)

Nice, very nice :D

Girlie? the Falkniven WM1 is a goodie, and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I do like the handle you've made  I know not everyone likes a fingerguard but it's practical if kept fine enough not to interfere with the use of the blade.
I have to confess to owning a growing number of *girlie* knives  The major things are that they are decent knives and they fit my hands.

Cheers,
Toddy

Nope, just not happy with my morticeing mate, but the new year should solve that as I like Baldric have "A cunning plan":D

The WM1 is a lovely little knife, this one is fitted with Beefwood scales, black fibre liners, mosaic pins and the sheath is a multi layer pancake faced with deerskin and snakeskin for hangin' round yer neck.

I agree Toddy, they are a very nice little knife, I am however thinking of making one for me now.

Did you ever get a WM1??

Not yet ;) but I've gotten four others this year so I think I've got the menfolk worried enough for a bit
I do however have *need* :) for a sgian dubh to wear with my arisaid and an utter loathing for useless knives, so that kind of rules out any tacky commercial product :D ......... We'll see what we see :naughty:

Meant to say, I do like the sheaths, are they your work too?

Cheers,
Toddy

Yes, they are my work :), the F1 I used about 5 or 6mm leather for, it has been dyed saddle tan then soaked and dried rapidly to distress the leather. Then to feed the leather it has had mink oil rubbed into it (this will also help waterproof it and makes it look older than it really is). The sheath for the WM1 was my first attempt at a neck sheath and it is also the first time I have tried an inlay, thanks go out to Martyn for the snakeskin

Ahjno, the two lugs on the side of the sheath are for a hanging cord, this is light enough that it can be carried around your neck all day.

Phil, the wood is Amboyna Burl, I reckon it still has some darkening to do (this will happen over time) and has only been sat in a mixture of oils and waxes for 24 hours, since then it has only had four coats of Tung oil so Rich hasn't got out of all the work:D. It also has black fibre liners.

A coating of linseed or tung oil once a week for a while should see it through.

Thanks for the comments folks, it's always nice to have people appreciate your efforts.

Strange but true I have some lovely Leopard wood (Lacewood) that would go very well on one of these:D

Just need to check how stable it is.

I already have plans for the New year, they include an S1 with Argentinian ebony, an H1 probably in cocobolo and surprise, surprise another F1 possibly also in Beefwood

I like the look of the WM1 but how thick is the blade? I've an H1 and an S1 and they are both far too thick.
