I found this in an outbuilding, when I bought my home. Honestly officer.
I love/collect hand tools so this was a great find. From the Luther Grinder Manufacturing Company in Milwaukee USA. I would love to know how old it is. Puts a great edge on an axe or anything that needs a sharpen.
Take a look and if anyone has any info/opinion on it please say.

That looks like such a good toy :D

My Grandpa had a grinding wheel ...huge great gritty stone thing, nearly two feet in diameter, maybe 3" (long time ago, wider than my childish hand I mind that) wide, mounted in a wooden frame that had a wooden treadle at the front.
We spent endless time as kids furiously pedaling that thing to make the stone birl round and grind away all sorts of things, from twigs to nails....which gave off the most satisfying spray of sparks.

Pedal power rocks :D

I can actually remember a knife and scissor sharpener that used to come round every so often with something like this on wheels dragged by a little Shetland pony.
I'd be sent out with the knives etc in a bag and a slice of bread to keep the pony happy while the sharpening was being done. I'd be no more than 3 yrs old.
I'd completely forgotten untill I saw the pictures.
Amazing what jogs the memory buds!

One of the attractions is the shower of sparks it gives off. Bit dodgy in the barn so I usually drag it outside.

That looks great fun, I think we need a night time video of it in action as well as some slow motion. I would love to see the shower of sparks it makes. :)
Will see what I can do. Haven't got a smart phone! waiting for the weather to pick up.
