I think my wife must have been getting a bit envious of the other leather stuff I've been making, so she dropped some hints that she'd like a new belt. She chose this rather nice plate buckle from Le Prevo and I've made the belt for her over the weekend, and finished it off today.
It's made from 3.5mm veg tan leather, dyed with Fiebings black dye, and finished with Carnauba wax. The edges are dyed and rubbed with beeswax, before burnishing using a bit of dowel in my electric drill (a technique I got from Eric Methven - run the dowel in the drill with a small round file to produce an indentation and then burnish in this).
Finally the buckle and keeper are hand stitched.
Detail of the stitching and the leather keeper...
...and further detail of the inside of the stitching.
Thanks for looking...I think she's going to like it.
