Hello All, i have a life long friend , who after many years has finally consented to come wild camping this weekend coming ! After much persuasion , i have got him a tent ,bivvy bag , sleeping bag , utensils etc.

Any advice as to make it bearable for him would be appreciated , sensible or otherwise.

He take the rise out of me something chronic , saying "looking at twigs again?" and his new saying is " It's not camping it's trespassing " etc etc .

Thanks in advance .

:D

All joking aside; if he gets cold and wet, he'll be miserable.
Take a hot water bottle or some of those wee clicky heat pads and don't skimp on the grub and coffee :D

Hope it's a good 'un :D

atb,
Toddy

I think the appearance of a couple of Celts in the woods will be just the thing to make him feel quite at ease
He can sleep with Rich in his hammock that should be comforting after a night round the fire being told about the versatility of "the fish thing" for culinary delights and other "woods tramp" nonsense.

seriously if the weathers good then fire, beer ,brandy and talking ******** should do the trick
Think you can manage that Ivan? lol

He has had one go , but it was more like glamping so it's going to be an experience for him , good advice Toddy , wouldn't have thought about a hot water bottle.

And Steve , i am looking forward to you showing just how versatile your 50p fish thing is , his diet is pretty much like yours , really looking forward to it .

As a foot note , any of those invited , that haven't let me know if they are going to be late , or are not sure of exact location , please give me a shout , i don't want heavily laden woodland types wandering all over Dartmoor !

So you're offering to help carry the beer then?
That'll be a first!

Funny how alcohol supposedly has a cooling effect but feels so warm on the night (brandy, Malta, etc think of the weight, carry high ABC drinks).
Don't forget a sleeping bag and a per bottle. Not to be confused.

I hope you make a new convert.

Well , i am not sure if our current inclement weather is playing a part , but my pal has declined , mind you i have been messaged by a couple of really hardened and seasoned campers , who suddenly have prior engagements that they had forgotten about .

Still , the met office don't always get it right ! Myself and Adam , will be doing our very best to make your stay as comfortable as possible , as we will be on site from tomorrow night , so any further communication will have to be done via mobile phone , any last minute changes etc , shout on here by 3pm tomorrow .

Sod the rain , several reasons why we will be having a good time !

The Welsh stallion and I are still coming parachute sounds cool to me especially as it should be up and sorted by the time we arrive
Pity your mates backed out because he would have seen how to cope with adverse weather and I would gladly have given a few tips as would others I am sure
By the way the fish thing was 99p from a charity shop in Chepstow and I have made a nice green(lol) waxed cotton bag for it now ;so be prepared and be in awe
It will be a tad damp at times this weekend but we love it
See Youse friday

Hi Rick , yeah great idea with the parachute , got just the space in mind for it , blimey all these hardened bushcrafters , the things that crop up last minute !!

Never mind , although somewhat depleted , we will still have a great time , not bad in 2 years and countless meets , we have only had 2 occaisions where the weather was that bad , that we had our smiles on upside down , the Brentmoor House trip and one 3 hour spell on Dartmoor, where some of the wiser ones retreated to the cabin.

Better to be born lucky than rich !!

My dear Steve , don't worry about show and tell re how to deal with the conditions , i will listen and learn intently (doe's that mean from my tent ?) Anyway , it will still be an international meet with guests coming from the four corners of the globe !

And we are all eager to see 100 different ways to produce a balanced meal with your now infamous fish thing ! ( by the way you owe me £2.86 for re non sticking my frying pan )

Slight change in ,recognisable vehicle parked outside the wood for those of you arriving late , it will now be Adams search and rescue car ! can't miss it blue with yellow stripes down the side .

See you all at various times , drive safe .
